  • I just wanted to say hi and share my news. I read about this way of life in the paper and then watched the documentary on iplayer. What I liked most was the fact it has so many health benefits and wasn’t just about losing weight. I have lots of weight to lose but ‘diets’ don’t work for me. I lost weight then get bored and put it back on.

So I fasted on Monday and Thursday and although I’d normally weigh myself on Saturday I decided to weigh myself today as I’m away this weekend and 7lb lost. I’ve a lot of weight to lose so that’s a great start. But I’m hoping this will be a change for life.

I did find my fasting days tough but I’m hoping they’ll get easier. I did notice that on the second day, when I didn’t have breakfast and didn’t eat till the evening was slightly easier. Please tell me it gets easier.

The forums have given me so much info so thank you to everyone who posts. It’s been a great help.

Anyway. Good luck to the other new people and Hello to everyone x

HI I just finished my first week too. Didn’t find it that bad. Well done on your loss. That’s brilliant! I have a good bit to lose but am very motivated so fingers crossed! 🙂

I have just finished my first week too 8lbs off I have 5 stone to lose altogether. I find it much easier to keep all my calories for the evening on a fast day. Well done we can do this. I am going to be careful over the weekend but not easy if you are away. I am fasting on Mondays and Thursdays too so looking forward to next week.

That’s great Double trouble! Well done. I am going to be careful too this weekend. Im hoping to have a dry January! Im looking forward to next week too. Lets do this 🙂

Awesome job Greenfairy and Double Trouble, might be a weird question but are you male or female? 7-8 pounds in the first week is such an accomplishment!! I am a female and I just started on Monday myself, fast days are on Monday and Thursday’s as well. I found the first fast day was great, ate exactly 500 calories but I went over on my 2nd fast day, ate 646 calories. However, I’ve been doing Zumba everyday this week which burns about 691 calories an hour. So I am hoping I didn’t mess myself up. I would be so happy to lose 7-8 pounds in the first week, I am not going to weigh myself until next Tuesday, after my 3rd time fasting but I am hoping for a weight loss like you, awesome job!

I love the idea of a forum, it gives me something to read in the evening instead of looking in the refrigerator every 5 minutes for something to eat. LOL! And so may positive stories, I really think I will finally accomplish my weight goal by summer with this new change of life plan!

Hi Dawniedawn very impressed with your daily zumba. Exercise is something I have yet to sort out and not my favourite thing I am watching an exercise bike on ebay so that I can do fast exercise because short and sharp appeals to me. I am definitely female and 56 next month so the 8lb was a surprise to me too as I am a difficult age lol

So nice to meet you, Lady!

I’m 46 1/2 and pre-menapausal so my metabolim is awful and I am having a very difficult time trying to keep the weight off.

I found Zumba in December of 2014 and lost like 17 pounds in 35 days. But that was going faithfully, everyday, like 8 times a week. I kind of burned myself out. Additonally, my husband (by the way, he is doing this diet as well with me) and I are boaters, so once June hit, we were back to eatting burgers, wings, cheese and drinking every weekend and I slacked in the working out department. By this past December I gained all my weight back, even a little more. I weighed myself at 173 on Jan 4, 2015, I am 5’5, so to get to a BMI of 24.9 (normal) I need to get down to a weight of 149. So my goals is 24 pounds by May!!

I wish you and all the 5:2 peeps so much luck and I really encourage us all checking in on our progress and rooting each other on!!

At my age, I need all the support I can get because its so easy to veer off track rather than stay on!!

    WE CAN DO THIS!

Lady DoubleTrouble like the ring of that 🙂 I am still premenopausal which is a complete PITA!

Wow well done that’s a fabulous start greenfairy! I started Monday too and have lost just under five pounds. I know that’s mostly water and I don’t expect that sort of weight loss again but its a great boost to keep me on the straight and narrow.

    Well done to you all.
What was the name of the documentary The GreenFairy?

@janpartly, question, did you weigh yourself in on Monday? How quickly did you lose the 5 pounds. That is awesome!! I weighed myself Sunday in at 173, the most I have ever weighed in my life, I started Monday as well. I am fasting back to back Sunday and Monday, and weighing in on Tuesday, I know its going to be mostly water, but I want to get under the 170 mark!! 5 pounds would be a great start!! Keep up the great work!

Thanks for all the very supportive posts.

Dawnie – I’m female. But I am very overweight so I lost a lot week one. I expect this to slow considerably now. But I’m happy for it to be slow and steady.

Jane – I found the documentary on iplayer and it’s called Horizon – Eat Fast and Live Longer. It was inspiring because it shows the benefits instead of just the weight loss side.

Good luck everyone. Here goes week 2!

    x

    Hi GreenFairy.

I am done with my first week and I lost 5 pounds. I am really excited. Although, its been tough on my fast days. I’ve done 3 fast days thus far and I only stuck to 500 calories to one of those fast days, the other 2 I went over, one day by 146 calories, the other like 300 calories. But I did do a Zumba Class on those days and burned about 691 calories. So it makes me feel I actually burned off those extra calories…in the end, I still lost 5 pounds after my first week.

I plan on doing my 4th fast day tomorrow as we are leaving on Thursday to head up north (I am from Michigan) to go snowmobiling. I hope I don’t gain my weight back because I know cocktailing will be involved this weekend.

    Cheers to week two.

Keep up the great work everyone!!

Well done Dawnie – that’s great news!

Have a fantastic holiday! I’m not jealous… much

Hi, I’ve just finished my first week too but I’ve put on a pound. This is my second attempt at the diet. I tried it early last year and gave up after 2 weeks because I put on weight but after reading all these comments I can see that I just need to be more patient.
I’m a veteran dieter (now 65) and have tried most of the diets that have become popular over the last 50 years. I actually began dieting, a strict 1000 cal diet, when I was 15, which looking back on it was very sad as I wasn’t overweight but wanted to look like Twiggy.
Anyway, last year I was on Cambridge for 8 months. I lost 3 stone over the first 5 months and then the weight loss slowed down, I couldn’t stay focused, I came off it in Dec with 4 stone still to lose because I was broke and because I knew I couldn’t lose any more with it. I put on 6 pounds over Dec and Xmas and I was trying to decide which diet to follow before I regained any more of the weight when I saw the article in the paper recently with the stories of women who had lost good amounts of weight with the 5:2 diet, so thought I’d give it another shot.
Because my body is used to surviving on 600 cals a day (on Cambridge diet) I think it will take longer for my weight loss to kick in. I’ve decided to do 4:3 and to carefully count my calories using the TDEE calculation on my non-fast days. I know the guidelines say that all I need to do is eat normally on my non-fast days but quiet honestly, I don’t know how to eat normally.

Hi all! So I just finished my first week too… Well sorta. I changed it, but now I wonder if that might’ve been a mistake… I read all the actual data this is based on, and I decided I could handle doing the big kid version that actually shows increased lifespan, and wasn’t all modified because of weak willpower (ie. the mouse studies- with zero calorie days)

So, to kick start it, I did 48hrs on nothing but water, (it turned out to be remarkably easy as long as I kept myself distracted- lots of video games…) and for the rest of the week alternating a day of food, a day without (also not so bad—some grumbling, but if you take out sleep & travel really Its only about 14hrs awake time without a meal and who can’t do that?) all told probably about 6000 calories in the week, though I guess my average should increase to about 7 or 8000 as I don’t plan to do anymore x2 in a row days.

Anyway, I noticed that my appetite on my eat days is affected negatively (which is contrary to the couple studies I saw’s findings- like the mice for example gorged). I actually had to force myself to eat 2k worth of food today, like I really feel less hungry, and I love sushi… And that’s no bueno as it means a slowing metabolism yeah? if I just eat it anyway is it still possible to trick my intestinal tract, or does the fact that my mind isn’t interested indicate that my digestive system is now starting to get slower regardless?— in which case eating when not hungry might actually hurt my slenderizing goals…

Also, I’m concerned about extra skin!!! I’m not huge, huge- started at 209lbs, 5ft9. But I seem to be dropping it really well, (a fairly hydrated) 199.6 today!(also exercising) and I know the results will eventually taper, but if I lose 45lbs in 3-4 months will I have rolls of skin everywhere like some poor hound dog? Or is that a slow enough loss that my skin cells will readjust?

Thanks for any input in advance and good luck everybody else! (PS, I really encourage being distracted those first couple!)
