  • Hi everyone!

First time poster on my first day of fasting. I’m a 26-year old male, 5ft10in, weighing 14st11lb (around 94kg/207lb). I’ve flirted with ‘getting fit’ many times but, like many people, it only ever seems to be in short-lived spurts. At best, I’ve managed to lose a stone, but then gradually it creeps back up as I go back to my normal way of life.

The 5:2 lifestyle appeals to me on many fronts, but primarily because it’s actually a sustainable way of living and simultaneously restricting calories. As a Muslim, I’m used to fasting ‘proper’ (no food or drink whatsoever), so this method of fasting is not as big a jump for me as it might be for other newbies.

What I’m planning to do is do the 2 days of fasting as prescribed but simply eat it in one meal at the end of the day. So the last time I ate was Sunday 8pm, and I intend to eat my 500 calories in one sitting on Monday at 8pm, before commencing on a normal day on Tuesday 8am, making it the 36-hour fast prescribed.

In order to accelerate my weight loss, I intend to eat more carefully on my non-fast days.

My first target for weight loss is 1.5stone (10kg/22lb) by the end of 2016 and my ideal weight would require 2st11lb loss (18kg/40lb).

I have taken a measurement of my waist and chest so that I can check the progress on a monthly basis, and I intend to weight myself every Monday morning (fast days will be Monday and Thursday).

    Appreciate any critiques!

    Hi chasingaloss,

Very conservative approach which should make it very do-able. Im 54 yo male, 178cm tall and did weigh 202 lbs. Lost 44 lbs over one year by doing water fasts on my fast days. Found this easier to do that eating 1/4 TDEE. Im now in maintenance and do 6:1 and its still a water fast. You say your used to fasting, why not try a water fast for your fast days? If it ends up being too hard then back it off to what you have proposed. All seems very do-able. Good luck. It works.

my first day as well chasingforloss! we can do this. i also have done fasting before, having read other material on intermittent fasting, but this version makes the most sense to me. And even though i know if i want real weight loss i’m going to have to watch on non fasting days, there is something psychologically comforting to think i can eat what i want on those days… the cake is there tomorrow 🙂

Fasting Day #6 – Love the Intermittent Fasting (IF) plan as it really does work! I’m not a fan of eating only one meal on Fasting days. You will get VERY hungry during the day, not a good thing! I eat two meals: breakfast and dinner and sometimes a small snack for lunch. I too Fast on Monday and Thursday which works very well. A typical breakfast would be a very small portion of ham and a single large egg.. nothing else. This morning I had Grape Nuts cereal 35g 127 cal, blueberries 33g 19 cal, Apricot 49g 24cal and 2% Milk 0.07 cup 9 cal. Total calorie count: 179 cal. Next meal around 6:00 p.m. to include salad (can eat lots of this) with chicken and fruit to round out the 421 calories remaining. I love Fasting Days and look forward to them. With the right plan you will too. Best of Luck..
