  • Denise went to be assessed at pars and can start her exercising tomorrow, she will be with me so it’s worked out well. She will go to both my sessions.Heidi just been fed but not showing any interest in her food, she tends to eat late at night. Not took her out for a walk either, been busy so will take her now.

Just ordered two new smart bulbs for the stairs.Nice sunny day here now,who said it rains all the time in Manchester☀️☀️☀️.Have you not tried any smart home automation yet Jean?

    Evening All…
A good bit of training with Charlie..I got him to sit and stay and then come to me at 20 feet, then sit and stay and I left the room with my back to him with door shut on return to come..two falters out of 8..very pleased with him..

    Hedgehog..
What a worry on the attack, it’s the small dogs I think are the worse..not all I know, I have a couple of small terrier type who seem old and cranky barking a lot and snapping..I am wary if I have not met them before..I have a husky type dog which I give a wide berth, the owner said he’s not nice….Charlie likes to be friends with every dog and their owners….

Loosing the collar is a worry, still Xena would be ok, it’s if they are frightened and run..

    Dave..
It’s good Denise is going to your excerise class..a good day out 😂…makes things easier at the same time.

No smart bulbs here yet…we use the radio a lot more than the tv now in day time….

    Jean x

TuneIn radio is great,I used to listen to it at work.Jack Russell dogs are the worst,it’s a good job they are only small. Heidi met yet another Shih Tzu, they are very popular round here, it had one of those long leads on and it wrapped itself around me and Heidi, took a while to get untangled.

Jean- do the doctors have any idea what is causing Steve’s breathing problems at all? Well done to Charlie with his training! 🌟 Are you going to classes again this week?
Dave- glad Denise can go with you to classes, will give you both encouragement! Hope Heidi eats later, is she a night owl too?!
Think Xena is dreaming of jack russells, she’s twitching & her hackles are up in her sleep!
Lovely cheese souffle for dinner tonight!

Heidi comes alive around 11:30 pm😁

    Hedgehog..
The doctors have no idea..seems to be eliminating things..a CT scan on his lungs arranged today so waiting letter….a heart scan in April and an Artery scan no letter yet….after these if all show nothing, they start on tests for his lungs….all his tests from waist down are fine, don’t know why they didn’t push him through one big machine!!..he said he needs a gun!! He’s very fed up..

We are going to puppy class on Wednesday night but I shall sit out for what we have been doing today as he is quite ahead, as she does it on a lead it will confuse him…he needs the socialising/ leaving with other dogs and lead training..see how we go.

Does Xena sleep a lot, he goes from 6pm to 6.30 am, dreaming as he goes 😂..hope she’s ok after her attack..

    Dave..
Heidi definitely a night owl 😂 like her dad…

    Jean x

    Morning all!
Dave- funny how Heidi has adjusted to your late nights!
Jean- Xena doesn’t sleep that well, tiny naps & she’s always got half an ear out for anything going on! But generally she’s more settled in the evening, she goes in her crate when we go to bed about 10.30, she’s quiet until 6am. Dogs are supposed to sleep quite alot but I guess they vary just like we do!
Youngest son has his new car now, so is going out alot to show it off! We need to go shopping today, he wants to take us! 😱 TBF, hubby says his driving is fine…

Sorry I haven’t checked in for a few days. It was a busy weekend.

Dave – I love the rugby. Is it Sale that’s near to Chill Factore? We’ve been meaning to go to see Sale for ages, but just haven’t got around to it. I also need to look at changing my mobile contract, but I need a moment to focus on it. I’m not on a bad deal with Vodafone atm.

Thanks all for asking about my application. Yes, I sent it in on Friday so am waiting to hear back. I think I should get an interview because I ticked all of their boxes, but we will see. I’ll keep you all posted. Universities can move at a snail pace at times, so I’m not sure when I’ll hear.

Kay and Jean – I’ve booked to go to Chill Factor on Friday morning. I can’t wait. It’s actually a REAL snow slope (rather than a dry ski slope – which are evil!) 😄

Hedgehog – St Ives is lovely. When are you looking at going? (Sorry if I missed you saying). My best friend from Uni lives down in Cornwall, so I’ve been down there quite a bit. I’m sure you’ll have a great time. Although the last time I was there was this January when we had the snow and I got stranded there for a couple of days! That wasn’t fun! I’m so sorry to hear about poor Xena being attacked. It’s horrible! When we had our previous dog, Lola, we hadn’t had her very long when she was bitten really badly by another dog. Fortunately she was ok and it didn’t seem to phase her afterwards, but I was sooo upset! I’m sure Xena will be absolutely fine. Hugs!

It’s a very windy day in Manchester. I hope everyone stays safe in these winds. I have a full day of marking ahead of me because the first assessments are in, but I’m working from home, so will be hiding from the awful weather! (But no exercise unfortunately – damn, I’m too good at hibernating! This is when a dog is good because it gets you out no matter what)

I had a really good FD yesterday, finishing on 281 cals. On a NFD today ,but planning on lots of lovely healthy Mediterranean foods. I hope everyone has a great one. G

    Morning All..
Hope everyone is safe and sound…we had a lot of howling wind in the night, the pup stayed close in his bed.

Waiting in for boiler service engineer…hoping for Charlie’s weigh in later ..then to hospital appointment only a chat as we know the out come..

Keeping Charlie on lead today he may not hear me on recall…see how windy it is it may be a shorter walk but I don’t like to short change him!

Looks like daughters house sale is going through nothing found with the surveyor, the roof and three window frames may be an issue, which she knew about, maybe a reduction of $15,000…which she expected….so the family will be house hunting in Houston tomorrow…hoping she will settle better and they both feel it’s better for the family…there’s a big English Commonwealth community Club so some UK roots too.

    Hedgehog..
Charlie is a sleepy boy, mad boisterous play for 40 mins then crashes for a sleep..again and again…still his ear is always listening…puppy class tonight, new tit bits are going down well, I think he will jump through a hoop 😂

It’s lovely when they are excited about something new….a new car is always nice and show offy…why not…
    Enjoy your shopping..

    Gerry..
I don’t envy the marking but it’s nice to be tucked in for the day..keep away from the fridge 😂…

I have never done any type of skiing, a bit nervous just not my thing…still drinking red wine and my first fondue and watching, that’s a different thing..( I did that in Dubai with my daughter when she lived there)..a happy memory..

    Have a good safe day..

    Jean x

Very windy upset the pup a bit…he just kept looking in the sky..a full walk but on a lead…a welcome coffee waiting for me…and a sit down..

Boiler engineer here so no water..

A bit of cleaning later and ironing..

    X

Jean- the wind does make dogs scatty, Xena likes to chase leaves, hope Charlie is good.
Gerrie- stay cosy doing your marking. The ski slope sounds good, nice to have a (non-food!) reward for meeting goals! Your poor Lola, how long have you been without her? Well done on your FD!
Dave- hope the exercise class is good!
Son’s car is lovely & his driving is good. Spent more than usual as he added lots to the trolley, don’t mind though as he’s looking skinny…

    Hedgehog..
We went to the park to play but too windy and as you say scatty…Steve wanted to go…no weigh in for Charlie major traffic jam miles long we gave up right where we needed to go..go tomorrow ..

Glad your sons driving is good, it just takes time…William the grandson drives all over the country he does well too, passed just a year ago…he takes his time with stops…

    Off to hospital now..

    Xx

    Hi all
Just a few bits and pieces of running around. Haven’t really had time to prepare properly for tonight – a wing and a prayer.
I’m going to eat up some home-made baked beans from the freezer tonight. I was up so early I up-ended my day, so i’ve eaten more than normal. So tonight I ‘eat like a pauper’!
    Mx

Just home from the gym as Denise calls it,her first time and she did really well.Took Heidi out and she met two Friends,Willo a big rottweiler and Bella a Yorkshire terrier.Nothing bothers Heidi, wind rain or snow,I suppose being from a working dog breed it’s inbred.Undecided if it’s going to be a fast day, only had about 150 calories up to now.The rugby ground near chill factor is Sale and Salford,it’s called the AJ Bell stadium, and Salford rugby own it but Sale do play there,I have been about five times to watch Sale but not recently.

All gone well at hospital Steve’s blood platelets are 30 down which is good…wind is getting up again and pup to walk a small one tonight as he has had two walks today already…don’t want him too tired for puppy class..

    Minols ..
    Enjoy your homemade beans tonight..

    Dave..
Glad the keep fit went well and Denise did ok ..

Cottage pie for us this evening with peas, one of Steve’s favourites ..

    Jean x

Still undecided on what to eat, feeling very hungry so might end up a low day.

Jean – I’m glad things went ok at the hospital. I’m doing ok today, but your ‘keep away from the fridge’ comment is sooo spot on! Do any of you have any tips for distracting yourself from thinking about food? I’ve done ok so far today, but there have been points where I’ve found it almost impossible. HELP!! 😂

We were in Switzerland in January and I had the best fondue I’ve ever had there. It was absolutely divine!! I’m salivating now just thinking about it, so I need to stop! Haha.

Hedgehogs – it’s been nearly 4 years since we had Lola. Basically, I got a job and it wouldn’t have been fair to keep her because I had to be out for long days. She was such a people dog and needed company almost constantly. I still miss her so much, but I know we did the right thing for her. She definitely used to get more scatty with the wind – and she was pretty scatty anyway!!

I hope everyone has had good days. Dave – how did you day end up?

I did ok just about a fast day. Will try for another FD tomorrow, hockey tonight so it will be a late one.Its not as late at the moment they have daylight saving time in Canada so it starts an hour earlier.

Dave-glad you kept to a FD! And good that Denise enjoyed the exercise class.
Jean- glad that Steve’s results were good yesterday, hope they’ll get an answer soon for his breathing! Does he come out for walks with Charlie much?
Minols- hope that your meeting went okay in the end! & the beans don’t have too much of an effect!
Gerrie- no tips for avoiding thinking about food from me- 😢, I have the same problem! I do clean my teeth after eating in the evening at times to stop me keep nibbling, it helps…
Have a friend coming over this morning, a long walk for Xena first to make sure she behaves, miserable weather though!

Hi Hedgehogs – yes, good idea to clean teeth. That definitely helps. So I did manage a successful CD yesterday and am on a FD today. The scales are the lowest they’ve been in 3 months and I’ve only been doing 5:2 for 3 weeks, so I’m very happy with that! 🙂

I hope everyone has a great day today whatever you’re up to.
    g

    Morning All…
    Dry, very cold and windy…

I have my reservations on the puppy class..it’s like a bun fight 20 dogs last night, it’s encroaching on Charlie’s sleep time and he’s very uninterested, he likes the socialization with the other dogs at the beginning before we start training..in training, after about 10 mins he’s laying down and can’t be bothered getting up and sitting down…a typical man!

Taking him for his weigh in at the vets after our walk…

We are fasting today…cleaning down stairs for me..Steve in the garage he’s delayed in what he is doing…just keeping busy…chicken and a chilli dip to night..

    Gerry..
We used to pick a lot mainly on chocolate digestives, at least three times a day with our cuppa..didn’t snack on a night….I haven’t bought biscuits in over two years now….I usually have homemade small plain scones (50 cals plus butter) in the freezer and I make a chocolate granola buns which keep for 3 weeks, everyone’s favourite so they are handy to have about..for our weekend treats too.

I just think fast day non negotiable!!…it doesn’t bother both of us now…..good the scales are looking good for you..that’s the push to keep on board…think of summer clothes 😀

Switzerland fondues must be the best, I think that’s where they started…

    Hedgehog..
Steve has only been walking about 6 times usually it’s the third playtime walk of the day, that’s not every day..with ball in a field…he walks too slow…he managed three forest walks..

Have a nice catch with your friend…hope the girl behaves…

    Dave..
Hope the hockey was a good game..

Have a good fast day everyone..

    Jean x

Had a really lovely time with Xena at the park today; there were a group with 5 dogs all playing, she had a lovely time with them! Better than Tuesday! A lurcher chased her round for a while & wore her out, then the cheeky boy came up to me & stole my whole bag of treats out my pocket! Xena was pretty good with Anne except for jumping on her lap uninvited, then she climbs up on people’s shouldes as well!
Hooe fasting is going okay Jean, Steve & Gerry! I’m out for dinner tonight- not counting calories but hoping it’ll be keto!

Hockey was very good,we lost 5-4 but very exciting. The scones sound nice but the butter would be almost as many calories as the scones,so will rule them out.Fast day again today, hoping to make up for coconut cake and sponge pudding at the beginning of the week.Bought a new brush for Heidi and she likes this one she lay on her back while I did her belly😁 Getting excited now, speedway starts in a few weeks.

Feeling peckish now but will wait until around 6pm.Very windy today but dry.I hope you are all doing well.

Dave- German shepherds moult continuously, don’t they, must be alot of work! Xena is funny about being brushed; she doesn’t like her brush, but will happily roll over if you use something else- like a car windscreen scraper! (She was very interested in it the other day, I though that would make her leave it alone!)
Jean- don’t you start all that scone talk again! It should be a banned word on here!

Starving now,it’s very very rare I eat S C O N E S.I bought some fruit ones for Denise,I don’t like them but I did try one and it was ok.My sons the same and he tried one and said it’s ok,high praise by his standards.

    Evening All…
All finished here…quite enjoyed the chicken with chilli sauce..possibly shouldn’t of had the sauce but it was nice…I haven’t counted but about 500/600 that’s ok with me….

    Hedgehog..
The park sounded such fun, nice when you can get a few dogs/people together..Charlie can get boisterous but he loves it….a big girl to sit on Anne’s knee 😂..still Charlie gets on Steve’s knee occasionally..he’s a heavy lump…enjoy your meal tonight hoping you find something keto…

Dalmations, they say only moult twice, day and night, 365 days a year..😂..fun…I look like a dog walker now covered in white hair!!..and mud!!

The pup has been brushed and wiped down with deodorant wipes today, he has his face washed everyday 😂

    Dave..
I sometimes make lemon scones, we can have them without butter…not like a cream cake but they can hit the spot…in desperation 😂

I have even been looking up healthy dog biscuits, found some nice tuna ones…for training..

    Jean x

    Mmmmm….. cheese scones….

    Kay..
How’s it going…have you been busy with your job?…mmmmm I like cheese scones too..no butter..

    X

Yes been busy with extra shifts.

We are going to go out somewhere tomorrow, but I reckon it will an indoor outing, given this blustery wet weather is set to continue!!

Not had any fasting this week so dont have high hopes this week!!
    Back to it next week!

Cheese scones Yuk hate cheese.HH will be round to whack us for mentioning the s word.

    Kay…
It’s always nice to have a week off..as long as it’s only a week 😂..have a lovely day tomorrow looks like a cider day 😀..if weathers not good…

    Jean x

Jean, no it wont be a cider day…thats Saturday…F1 and rugby to watch 😂

    Dave, you hate cheese?? 😮😮😮😮😮

    Hate cheese and soup😝😝😝😝😝😝

    Cheese talk is fine!
Kay- hope your week off hasn’t done too much damage! Have a good day out today…
Jean- good that Charlie is happy to be washed, Xena hates it, I have won the battle about paws being dried now, that was hard enough! There’s lots of dog treat recipes online, but we’re trying to keep Xena grain-free, so she mainly has bits of chicken or liver, and carrot every day!
Dave- hope you kept to the FD, & the coconut cake doesn’t do too much damage to your weigh in…
Had a very nice night; we’ve been friends since high school, 2 since primary school, but don’t get round to meeting up that often. Kept to keto okay. Haha, found out a lady my son works with the others know- he gets on very well with her, he told me she’s about 60, but she was at primary school with them so is our age! Oops, hope he’s been tactful!
Fasting today, and seeing my home start family. Not a black coffee day though, couldn’t face it this morning!

    Morning All..
Windy as ever this morning very bad..

Weigh in this morning we are both the same which isn’t bad as we have been naughty while away…that must stop on next trip…Charlie 1/2 pound off good boy…

Shopping this morning and Mr C’s day..haddock and chips..going across lunch snack this evening…

    Hedgehog..
Any reason why grain free?..what food do you feed her?..chicken and liver cooked or raw?…I am interested as it’s ages since we have had a dog, things have changed a lot…

We have been told Dry Kibble but he’s not keen…..I have a warm wet micro cloth for his feet it works and he seems happy better than a bowl of water!! 😂…even down his legs and belly, up to now if needed….

Glad your meal out and meet-up went well…hoping to catch an old friend in April who I haven’t seen for ages..

    Kay..
Enjoy F1 Steve’s looking forward to the season…and the rugby..

    Jean x

Jean, Ellie was on grain free too. They dont need all the wheat and maize grain stuff. Brown rice and sweet potato best form of carbs.
Have a look and see if there are any dalmation fb groups that talk about health and education. I got lots of tips from a sharpei specific one.

Very windy today again so we are driving over to a place called Trago Mills, huge shopping place. Be a change.

Sneaky look at the scales and Im a pound up but If keep it low today or fast, I will hopefully weigh in tomorrow and have maintained which will be an excellent result given my week!

HH, sounds like a lovely evening!

    Jean, enjoy your f&c day!

Dave, so broccoli and STILTON soup would be out for you then 😂

Broccoli would be out never mind cheese.I have been many times to Trago Mills, they sell everything 😁. Just done the shopping, the scales were kind😁😁😁 I have lost 2lbs so a great result considering. My daughter feeds her Dog de Bordeaux and Golden Retriever on raw meet, she said they look fantastic since going on it.They were talking about a raw meat diet for dogs on Cruffts last week,it’s very good for the coat and the stools are much smaller because the meat is full of nutrition and not much waste, also the stools don’t smell.I think Heidi is a bit to long in the tooth to change. My grandma used to feed her collie on raw meat, she got it from the “doggie butcher” which was just round the corner from where she lived.

Jean- agree with Kay, they don’t need ‘carbage’! We feed Xena on Canagan, it’s quite expensive but hoping to avoid some of the health problems Josie had later down the road. If you look at the ingredients, meat should be at the top. I looked at raw feeding her, but was outvoted- you can’t mix raw and cooked together, & you have to get the right balance with meat, offal & bonemeal, so it’s complicated…I cook chicken, liver, kidney or fish & add it in with Xena’s food or for treats as well. Sorry, lecture over!
Home-start visit went well, but poor mum is suffering with her back…the dad has injured his too, wish I could do more to help!
    Fasting going okay…

    Afternoon All..
Haddock and chips were ok but not their best…

Charlie is on Arden Grange dried food but he is fussy…I think it’s 22% meat, chicken and rice at the moment…..he was on wet food but the vet said to change him over to all dried…little tinker will eat it with gravy on and a bit of our meat…I don’t cook every day….he eats some as treats or if I hand feed him his dinner…he’s taking the Micky!

    Hedgehog..
Hope your ears are burning…carrot all over 😂..he’s eaten half..I need the hoover out!

There are some bad reports on raw feeding, you have to be careful it’s not for us..maybe I should give him a bit of meat and gravy on top..your thoughts?..do you cook a bit of meat what lasts 2 or 3 days?..or is it every day….sorry for all the questions….I appreciate your help.

    Dave..
Well done on 2 lbs off..too many ways to feed dogs very confusing…

    Kay..
Thanks I will look on FB, there may be something about…he has three months of food to eat then I will think again…they are worse than children…

    Jean x

I give Heidi Iams dried food mixed with a tin of tuna, sometimes salmon. She has wet food occasionally too.She has dental chews and joint aid chews.

Dave-sorry, our posts crossed…well done, 2lbs off, maybe I’ll try some coconut cake 😉
Jean- there have been some food poisoning cases with raw feeding, the lady we got Xena from had all her dogs on raw food, must cost a fortune! Knowing you, you probably make gravy from scratch(?), I wouldn’t give Bisto as it’s got lots of additives. Otherwise you could mix a bit of wet food in with the dried? I cook mince sometimes & mix it in, or she has the leftover bits from a roast, just a little sprinkled over, keeps for a few days okay. I cook liver just for her, about a tbsp is all they should have at a time as it can upset them! Sorry about the carrot; Xena would hoover it up for you! I cut tiny pieces & throw them about the kitchen for her to find while I’m cooking! She loves it…& read an article the other day about rawhide chews & the chemicals they use to prepare them, I thought they were natural & healthy…what a minefield😰!

When we have chicken Heidi gets the legs and wings, she looks forward to us having chicken 😁.

    Hedgehog..
The carrot was good he played with it a while before eating half…I don’t think he knew what to do with it….just meat juices….still again I messed about again tonight and he’s left his dinner..I got some rawhide but threw the rest away gave him the runs..it’s getting the balance you can’t believe what’s on the packet..I will get there eventually.

    Dave..
I will try some bits of meat…still unless I stand off and only biscuits…he knows I am a soft touch ..

Turkey dinner for us tomorrow plenty of titbits!

    Have a good weekend all..

    Jean x

    Hello

Happy Friday. On hols next week, booked a lovely (dog friendly) cottage in the Peak District. No puppies allowed in the hot tub!

Loving the woofles talk. We do the same as Dave I think, dried food with a couple of teaspoons of tuna. Mind he would eat absolutely anything. He also gets carrot as a treat, the first time we also had carrot everywhere but now he eats the lot. In the summer I freeze them and give them to him outside. Our last dog was wheat free as vet suspected he had an intolerance that kept causing ear infections. Agree about the raw hide chews, makes them loose. They are sold everywhere so you assume they must be good for dogs but when you read up you realise they really aren’t.

Well done on the losses and maintaining. I am just about maintaining. My plan to lose 50lbs by a the time I’m 50 is no longer even remotely realistic. I’ll settle for 1/4 of that.

    Best wishes to you all

    CW

Heidi has a full tin of tuna mixed with two cups of dry food.Where about in the Peak district are you going? My mate lives in Edale.Snow up there the other day.

    Cakey Wakey..
Lovely to hear from you…nice to have a cottage booked which is doggy friendly…love Peak District…have a lovely week…and rest…

Tomorrow’s weather is so bad we are just thinking if we could take the pup out somewhere ‘friendly’ maybe for a sandwich lunch…just thinking…I like the frozen carrot idea…

Are you 50 this year? Aim for a quarter better than nothing ..it’s a stone off….my birthday is a biggy in April much more than you 😂..too many candles for the cake!

    Jean x

    Morning All..
A very wet start this morning or even all day..very dark …nothing really planned, just a pile of ironing…

Really need to start looking at decorating down stairs, checking all my painting bits and pieces….everything has been put on hold….filling and washing the paint down, is the first job…

Take the pup out shortly..Steve joining me this morning…

    Hedgehog..
Hope you enjoyed your night out..

    Kay…
    Rugby and F1 for you…Steve watching F1 at noon…

    Cakey..
Enjoy your break away…weather looks much better..

    Dave..
    Sport last night for you?

    Gerry..
What are you up too…a quiet relax…

    Have a good weekend..

    Jean x
