Hi Vi
It’s all dragons with us here. Cressida Cowell’s books are just brilliant. And here sketches make it possible for kids to draw their own, so we’re making up dragons right left and centre. The boy’s already drawn nearly a full notebook of them, and in the car, we each have to take it in turns to name and describe the characteristics of another dragon. My imagination needs external feeding, so driving through the countryside last week, my dragon was a ‘Farmer Dragon’ – very placid, but with razor sharp wings for cutting the harvest, and very well controlled fire breaths (just little puffs) used to herd cattle!
Porridge is an old-fashioned staple, here. Just oats (rolled is my favourite, but oatmeal is the most common), boiled with milk (cream in the olden days if you were rich, I guess, and water added if you were poor). The real division here, though is between the English who generally take it sweet and the Scots who take it with added milk and salt.
‘Enjoy’ your fast, Vi.
