  • Hi all. So today I have decided to make a change to my life. I am 5.1 and weigh 14.7 and really need to change. I have rheumatoid arthritis and am struggling to move some days. I am new to this diet so will be looking for lots of help and recipes.
Look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Brit and welcome:

Here is some information that might help: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

hello, Brit. We are here for you: with advice, recipes, back-patting, and encouragement.
Let us know how you are doing.

Britchic2 – I have been doing 5:2 for 6 months and it is very effective for me, so good luck! There is a monthly ‘Challenge’ group which is very active and you could drop in there for support. I’m on my 3rd monthly Challenge and have lost more in these groups than on my own. You don’t need to feel desperate as you have found 5:2 and it works very well. And you do ‘normal healthy eating’ on non fast days, so you can enjoy time with friends and family. Go for it!

Hi Britchic2, I also have RA and have been doing 5:2 for a year. My inflammation levels and mobility are worse when I’m heavier, so losing weight was necessary for me and has helped. I lost weight slowly but steadily on 5:2 and have continued on with 5:2 to help me maintain my weight. Unfortunately being short means a low TDEE, which affects what you need to consume on the days when you aren’t fasting.
If you haven’t worked out what your TDEE go to the “resources” tab at the top of the screen and calculate it. It’s also helpful to calculate it for your goal weight and if you can, aim to stick at around that level on your normal eating days. That way you get a lot of practice at eating appropriate portions for your goal weight. I’m not suggesting you count calories every day, just look at what you are eating over a few days to make sure you aren’t going too far over your TDEE on the normal eating days – otherwise it can cancel out the good work you’ve done by fasting for two days.

I experimented a bit with how to handle my fasting days but in the end I found that the later in the day that I started eating the better. I found it was fairly easy to make the fast day calories stretch wen I only had to accommodate one snack and dinner.

Finding an active group on this forum also really helps. The easiest place to start is probably the monthly challenge group. I’ve put the link for the January group below. It’s up to you whether you think this type of support would suit you and whether you want to join mid-month or wait for the Feb group to start.

Good luck, I hope you find this an easy way to lose weight.
