got down to 4 lbs less than my set goal so stopped fasting. I find that by eating sensibly my weight now regularly fluctuates by 2 lbs up and down. Am very happy with this but wonder, if I fast for one day a week, would I reap the health benefits?

Similar question to Vee Jay: having lost a lot of weight recently due to ill health, I don’t really want to lose more. I am trying the Fast Diet for the health benefits as well as supporting my hubby as he follows it. How do I reap the health benefits without losing weight?

I am dying to start this diet with husband but I have a 5 week old baby who I am breastfeeding…. I know breastfeeding can burn up to 600 cals a day and I am also trying to go running/walking as well as looking after a toddler… Could I start this diet with adjustments? Will be feeding for at least 6 months so don’t want to wait that long! Help!?

Hi my partner and I have both been on the Fast Diet for about 5 weeks. We are really happy with the weight loss aNd find the fast days surprisingly easy. However we both are suffering from indigestion on the non fast days? Other sites show that other people are also having this problem. Could Michael or Mimi maybe look into why this might be happening (the science?) We really want to continue with the diet but I hate being uncomfortable all day. Thanks

I’m not sure where to post this, as there is no thread encompassing my question. . However I will try here! I am Bi-Polar and also suffer from arthritis. I take a cocktail of drugs for the BP including an antipsychotic. For the arthritis, I take a NSAF and paracetamol. I aim to become fitter and slimmer using the 5:2, combined with exercise. Does anyone know whether the drugs will reduce the effect / health benefits of the diet?

I also am having trouble sleeping and trouble with substantial increase in hot flashes. Have researched it and found it is due to less glucose uptake to the brain. Would like to figure out a plan to get thru the night. Eat more carbs before bed? More protein? Anyone have experience with this or ideas? Thanks.

Just a couple of comments to some of the above posts voicing concerns over several health issues. I have no medical training but I would suggest to Alex that he speaks to his doctor. Kathy, as a 64 yr old male I have had sleep problems for yrs, having been on the diet for 7 weeks the problems remain. My problems may well be due to other medical issues so will see my doctor. Cherry I have no problem with indigestion having just completed my 16 th fast day so again, a quick enquiry with your doctor or surgery dietician may help. I have to say all posters impress me with their commitment and dedication to this diet especially those expressing publicly their medical issues. It shows a real positive mental attitude and I wish you all well.

Middle-aged woman, BMI 20.8. Plan to do 6:1 version of the diet for health benefits and weight management rather than weight loss. Stuck to the 500 carefully last week but (freed from my usual full-time counting routine) found myself slightly heavier by the end of the week. More than 1600 calories per day causes me to gain weight slowly – know this from years of successful (but so boring) strict/precise calorie counting. Wondering about the 500 calories for all women; 1/4 for me would actually be 400.

Today is my first Fast Day and already I am confused about calorific intake! I was planning on having scrambled eggs on toast for my main meal today. In one 5:2 diet book the calorific value of two scrambled medium eggs (no bread) is given as 155 calories, but in a calorie counter book is given as 308kcal. I don’t understand why there is such a variance – given that kcalories are supposedly the same as calories. Is there a consistent source we can reliably refer to for calorific value?

I was worried about not being able to sleep. Had 55g couscous with poached haddock 57g at 6pm, which sustained me through the night.

Sleep feels like the ultimate reward at the end of a fast day – except it doesn’t come to me! Feeling hangry and not being able to sleep is a toxic mix. I don’t know if I can keep going with IF if this is the result.
