  • Hi I am a woman late fifties still 7 stone overweight. I thought I would chart my weight loss to date. 10 weeks seemed a good time.

So is my week by week in case it helps anyone new to the site. Or wondering whether it is worth doing.

    W1 – 2
    W2 – 3
    W3 – 1
    W4 – 2
    W5 – 0
    W6 – 1
    W7 – 1
    W8 – 1
    W9 – 1
    W10 – 2

I have just started exercising on the Wii. Starting slowly the last two days before my last weight loss.

I don’t fancy the idea of the gym and being so much overweight wouldn’t feel comfortable, the doctor has suggested swimming, but as I said if I jumped in the water would jump out. I told her to ask me once I had lost another four or five stone.

I had already lost 1 stone since last May before started. I had very night blood pressure now it is high even though it is still controlled by tablets. The tablets give me vivid dreams so I would like to get it down to reduce the side effects. I am signed off from working by my doctor as my bloodpressure is too high and I am not sleeping well, the dreams and nightmares wake me up.

I was made redundant last July so that also added stress, which doesn’t help blood pressure.

My son had started this and was telling me how much he had lost. I decided that I must get healthier and who knows possibly lose weight. I must say I didnt have much faith that I would lose weight. I have been to three different diet clubs over the years and after a few months left all of them. I consistently managed NOT to lose weight on a regular basis and also would often put on weight half a pound or a pound here and there on a regular basis. I did lose overall but I felt that I was miserable and demotivated watching my food every day. Some people have a really good experience as you see in the press and it wasn’t because the group leaders weren’t helpful they were. The whole thing didn’t feel right for me.

Those of you are doubtful take a chance and start. The first day is the most difficult. I do Monday’s and Wednesday’s as I want the rest of the week to be clear. I can’t do two days back to back. I also started with having some calories at lunchtime and the rest in the evening. I have now found that having all in the evening helps.

You must weigh and count everything. Including drinks. I allow 100 calories for tea as this gets me through the day. I use a bigger cup than normal as it lasts longer. I then have 400 calories in the evening. I don’t eat bread, potatoes or any carbs on this day unless they are in a really low calorie ready meal. I always add vegetables to the ready meal. I eat at least About 400 grms of vegetables I use frozen. I alternate between chicken and fish normally.

Hopefully other people doing this diet might join in and put there details. Ask questions and if I can I will answer them. The Michael Moseley programme was inspiring. As is the book that he and Mimi spencer have written.

This forum has helped me a lot. To hear people’s stories and follow their journey.

Hi not sure if it is Jon or Walter (sorry)

I agree with making meal plans especially on fast days. I make overall plans for other days but they can be changeable I am on 5:2 for a long time to come and my lifestyle doesn’t require too much socialising and I don’t drink alcohol. Well maybe once or twice a year a glass of wine or cider.

The most important things is to allow yourself what you think of as treats, be this wine, alcohol, cakes, pastries or whatever. This is a long term plan and if you start feeling deprived it will be counter productive. If you eat more than you should one day, compendsatectge next.

Feel in control, I do now!

Personally I don’t have a low carb life but I do have a lower carb life than I used to. I eat bread, wholemeal and preferable seeded because I like it five days a week, I have potatoes or other main meal at least two. I have treats that contain carbs. It is about moderation. I am not sure what the paleo plan is or the Sonoma. I am happy with the 5:2 plan, why make life more complicated.

I just felt that a week by week loss record would be helpful to people. 10 weeks seemed like a good time.

    Hi Ginette
Thank you so much for posting your success, I have read through other threads on this website and feel inspired.
I started the programme three weeks ago, i’ m 52 and have over 6 stone to lose to get down to a healthy size. I will be happy to be able to slip into any size 14. My dad , a fit and healthy 75 year old has lost an amazing three stones on the 5:2 and consistently fasts on Monday and Tuesday to get it out the way for the week.
I’veread people’s challenges with regards to mobility problems etc. and feel blessed that I can walk and exercise , and that I really have no excuse not to get off my backside and burn up some calories and feel fitter.
I , like you, have tried almost every diet and have always felt deprived, so this programme is really good for me. Your posts and the support you give and get is amazing and I wish you every success on your journey.
I’ m as apple shape as they come so all of my weight is on my bust and tummy, my success will measured by how my waist reduces as we all know this leads to most of the nasty conditions and I feel as though I’ m just dodging the bullet at the moment.
One thing about my approach which my dad disagrees with, is that I have decided not to weigh myself. my reason for this is that on every other diet I get completely fixated by the pounds, I have always ended up weighing myself more that 4 times a day, before and after going to the bathroom, in the middle of the night etc. if in my mind I have deserved to lose weight and haven’t I have always bleamed the diet, if I lost pounds when I knew I have ‘cheated’ I felt I had just got away with it. As I write this I know it sounds mad but its how my brain has sabotaged my plans in the past.
I would appreciate your opinion, my target is all about my measurements because I will be able to wear the kind of clothes I want to wear, and I want to look good in them. I’ ve just squezzed into my size 20 golf trousers and there is a definite reduction in the muffin effect over the top of the waistband, I ‘ m off to the driving range and then will play golf for a couple of hours, but however hot I get will keep my baggy jumper on to hide the bumps.
Thank you again for posting your success , you have definitely inspired me!!

    Hi Mims4 Pims

I can understand you only wanting to weigh once a week. I do it daily and I can see how my weight fluctuates over the week. It can have a difference of 4/5 pounds through the week. I record it on an app. My weight loss shows up two days after last fast.

Keep a record of your first weeks as it helps people see the ups and downs that we have. Other people had a lot of weight loss and then no weight loss and maybe really slow weight loss from week to week.

I am on another couple of threads.

Ladies of a certain age and mid fifties.

I smiled when I thought about those weigh days with clubs. I always went to the toilet when I got there. I doubt if it would fill half an egg cup. I was SO unhappy if I put on weight there. This works! Do your TDEE on the calculator on another thread they suggested the Mayo clinic calculator. This came out at 200 less calories. I slowed down and so got my Wii back out as I lost two stone on it about 3/4 years ago until a really bad knee injury, I wasn’t even dieting at the time.

How much have you lost so far?

Give a gold star to your Dad. What an inspiration he is to us all and especially to you. The fact that he has inspired you to join is great. So many health benefits as well. I don’t obsess about food on this one and I always get food ready the night before. In the beginning I would do it on the day and felt under pressure. Now by doing it the day before I don’t. For a few weeks I had fish in sauce and vegetalbles. The fish in sauce was really low about 110 calories. I now weigh out chicken breast and vegetables. I have to have my cups of tea and so build these into the day and allow 100 calories for them. It works for me. The only week I found it difficult was the first one. I now look forward to it. How strange does that sound.

    Good luck on your Journey

We will compare from time to time. I will put up my next 10 weeks as well.

    Ginette

Forgot to say. Measurements will go down. I know I have lost a couple of inches from my waist and belly button measurements (I read that this is where you should measure) I didn’t measure from the beginning.

I go to a health trainer which is NHS funded. I have been going since last May and had lost a stone before starting the fast diet. It lasts for 8 visits and then 2 x 3 month follow ups. After 3 months you can refer yourself again for a second time. I wanted to be monitored but not on a weekly basis. He will discuss diet and exercise, also measures waist and weights me every time. He is very supportive although doesn’t beleive in 5:2 as he thinks I will gain weight when I come off of it. He accepts that I am doing well on it and encourages eating better food, this happened to me automatically.

I live in Hampshire and it is free here if you would like monitoring see if it is in your area.

    Ginette

    Hello All,

I weigh/measure/try on clothes once a week. I realized early on that scales are merely one tool to show any loss, tape measure is great but will only show up a loss on that half a cm where it goes round, and clothes start to hang differently and fit better as the weeks go by.

I have weeks where the tape measure doesn’t move and the scales seem to be broken, but it is clear that I am shrinking. You will ‘see’ the changes probably using all 3 as the weeks tick by.

Keep going and keep the goals small and achievable. Rewards should be non food!

    Hi Annette

I weigh every week but only measure every few weeks. I can feel it in my clothes. I am getting a new Wii game and I know I need to put measurements in that when building my profile, it makes onscreen avatar the same size as you. How depressing. I think there is an option to change it. I don’t look in mirrors, so I really don’t want to be put off the game before I have started.

Good luck for your fasts this week. My first one tomorrow.

    Ginette

    Hi Ginette

I am new and in my first week and in my 60’s so this thread and the LOACA one are very interesting. Currently sipping some water as I wait for my white fish/roasted vegetable dinner ( with potatoes for hubby but not me!).

    Thanks for all the tips!

    Hi stillvisible

Nice to see you here. I put my 10 weeks loss here as it is something people can compare with. I am amazed that I have a loss every week apart fom one. It is nice to show other peopke the journey so keep a record and add them to the thread in 10 weeks.

As long as you follow guidelines and weigh and measure everything on fast days you will be fine. I also keep a bit of an eye on the non fast days. I have eaten fish and chips (only a few chips and small fish) from the chip shop for two weeks in a row. I was looking after someone who was ill and that what all she fancied.

I have also had chocolate and chocolate gateau and cake although only small portions of each. I have increased fruit but mostly vegetables. Today (non fast day) I had a delicious granary bread, ham, watercress and who tomato sandwich. I use low fat cheese spread instead of butter under half the calories. I also had half a melon (small one) with yogurt in the centre this was a treat. This evening I had mince beef, mashed potato mixed with cauliflower and brocolli and a small slice of ginger cake afterwards.

I really don’t feel deprived. This is the key. I tend to batch cook as this is much easier to get something quickly when I am hungry.

A sugar free jelly and yogurt is also lovely for dessert.

The trick is to take things slowly. The average loss in a lb a week. I did lose a little more in the first few weeks. When it slowed down for a few weeks I got the Wii out. It made a difference last week. Let’s see if it does this one. I am happy with 5 lb a month. As I have a lot to lose I don’t want to look gaunt or get saggy. The exercise will tone me up and help with the weight loss. On my next 10 weeks I will also add an exercise log. It is useful to me as I can see a pattern.

I am on the other thread as well also the mid fifties one. We hopefully give help and encouragement. We are all in this together. Have you got much to lose?

    Ginette

    Hello Ginette K,

I just want to ask that if I don’t want to eat anything on my fast day then that’s okay?

Thanks for those tips! You are such a motivation!

    Hi Kiipalini and welcome:

Many people eat nothing on their diet days. It is OK.

Here are some tips going forward: https://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/the-basics-for-newbies-your-questions-answered/

    Good Luck!

    Hi koopalini

You won’t starve if you don’t eat for a day and some people do this. I need to do this long term and would feel deprived. Just wouldn’t work for me. It needs to become my way of life and if it suits you try it out and see for yourself. I have to have something to look forward to in the evening.

I myself have a meal in the evenings. I chose to not have carbs apart from vegetables as part of this meal. For example I have spicy chicken 160 grams it is 130 for 100 grms. So I add 130 and then 6 x 13 78, I round it to 80 calories as each 10 grams is 13 calories. I then have 350 grms of mixed vegetables frozen @ 28 calories 100gms 98 calories I count 100 so far I have reached chicken 210 calories and 100 calories of vegetables, 310 total. I also have 100 calories in milk in 5 cups of tea. I buy carton skimmed milk as this is thicker than fresh slimmed milk which I find to watery. I measured this out at the beginning and 100 calories is enough for 5 cups of tea. If I want another then it only works out at another 20 calories.

I sometimes have a dairy free cheese sauce over the vegetables. Obviously I am not a vegetarian and can have normal cheese sauce but this is very low calorie and and I find it passable. Other people really like it.

I even have enough left over for half a yogurt and sugar free jelly or a little something else.

I only have one meal in the evening (other people choose to eat differently) this works for me and I don’t wake up hungry. I don’t feel deprived on this day so that is a real plus point. If I couldn’t have a cup of tea I would feel deprived. For others this is fine. I used to have soup and then dinner but now I prefer to save my calories for a main meal.

You can have what you want or nothing but water as long as the calorie count doesn’t exceed 500 calories for a woman 600 for a man. For me the method above works.

Read the information for newbies and the tips. A lot of people have been doing this longer than myself and have more knowledge. I did read the information initially but felt a bit bombarded by advice. I couldn’t take all of the information it at first so now occasionally go back to read info as I need it. The person who is writing the newbies thread who I am not sure is male or female has lost weight themselves.

Start out following the guidelines to calculate your TDEE and then have 500 or 600 calories a day. Sorry I am not sure if you are male or female either.

I can say that exercise helps pass the day. I do mine at home on the Wii others go out walking. I also find that it helps me lose weight. I don’t do a lot. I feel better for it more proactive although I do give myself a day or tow off if I get aches and pains. If you exercise on the Wii and use muscles you aren’t used to using, please be aware of this as I had three weeks off due to an acute knee injury playing tennis on the Wii.

Now more than a twinge I rest it and also change the exercise. So one day concentrate on arms and cardio (boxing) the next on legs and stomach. I haven’t exercised in years so I am starting back slowly.

    Good luck

Let me know how you are doing

    Ginette

Thanks Ginette – 1 stone off will just about get me into the top of the healthy BMI range. To be honest I have felt OK at that weight before and I think I would find it difficult to go much lower and also after that it shows in my face and that means more wrinkles lol

    Hi Stillvisible

I know what you mean I lost a lot of weight once and my face looked gaunt. This is why a slow loss is better.

    Hi Ginette K.
;). CONGRATULATIONS! THAT WAS VERY INSPIRING! I JUST STARTED!
    ;). ~AFTER GAINING 38LBS.

    Hi Diane

I shall be putting weight loss up every 10 weeks now. I have just started exercising. I find the Wii brilliant as I am so overweight I haven’t got the stamina to exercise for long periods. I have lost weight doing this alone. So I know it will help exercising at the same time as 5:2.

    It works for me.

Some people expect to lose weight too quickly and then get fed up when they don’t. For me and I stick to the rules it works. It slowed at the end of the 10 weeks hence the Wii. I am on other threads on the forum and have found people to be really supportive and helpful.

Monitor your weight loss. I have an app that I use which shows a graph. My fitness pal. You can also look up foods on it to find calorie counts.

    Keep me posted.

    Ginette

Can you get fit fit only exercising for 4 minutes 3 times a week and burn more fat?

Only 4 minutes long so worth watching.

If anyone has got an iPhone/ iPad

Download a free app called My model. You can add before/now and after weights and it will show a model of your loss. I am sure that this is probably available on android. Perhaps someone can check.

Mine is before the beginning of current weight loss and includes the stone I had lost before 5:2

    Interesting to see.

    Ginette

    Hi All

thought I would share my fast day meals with you. I only have one in the evening.

I do have a variety of fish in butter sauce (frozen and defrosted) and vegatable. The fish is only 108 calories and I only have to cook the vegetable which I defrost overnight. I don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen on a fast day so this works well for me. I can put it all in one saucepan and the sauce over the vegetables is lovely. I can even have some soup earlier in the day if I want.

The other meal I have often is spicy chicken breast cooked in microwave and vegetables I weigh it all out so on a fast day I don’t have to think about it.

I am currently expermenting with salad dressings as the weather had changed. I make my own with french mustard, red wine vinegar and a dash of salt and pepper. I am going to try a variation of that recipe that I found on the Internet.

2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil

6 dashes of red wine vinegar

    1/2 lemon (juice)

    2-3 dashes of Italian seasoning

    2-3 dashes of garlic salt

I make mine up and put it in a bottle so I have it for a while. My uncle and mother used to make one similar to the one above but without lemon juice and herbs.

I’ve only had about half a pound loss this week. I did have an Easter egg though although I probably think that it is due to water retention as the hot weather has this effect on me. So I won’t be despondent as when we have a few cooler days it will show up on the scales and at least it was a loss.

Diane Q, stillvisible, koopini, Annette52, Walter Jon and mims4pims how are you doing?

Good or bad we can all support each other.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/9480451/The-52-diet-can-it-help-you-lose-weight-and-live-longer.html

    Hi All

This is an update not to the next 10 works just yet. But to show how I coped at the beginning.

Just in case this helps anybody:

Week 1 – struggled with what to eat. Decided on the day.
Week 2 – felt it was easier but really carb hungry after a fast day. Still struggling with what to eat.
Week 3 – adapted to no lunchtimes just evenings weighed and measured everything the night before.
This was so much easier. Used a post it note to add up calories as I went. Still a little carb hungry after fast day.

After this point I realised that I didn’t want carbs every evening. So changed to only 2/3 times a week. I still do that now. I tend to make a meal with sauces eg chicken in sauce or if not I use a dairy free cheese sauce over my vegetables. I use frozen mostly vegetables. It is much easier to keep a variety. They require much less cooking as the freezing process softens them. I do put herbs in with my vegetables different types of herbs and sometimes garlic. I saw a program which showed that frozen vegetables were really fresh when frozen. So less cooking and more goodness.

I once had a cauliflower straight from a field, given to me by a farmer. The stalk was really soft to cut though like a tomato or peach but not juicy. This was surprising to me as shop bought had always been hard. I would love to try other vegetables like this to see if they are the same.

    Sorry I digress………

I am now not carb hungry after a fast day. I only eat a meal at lunch time and in the evening. Snacks will now be fruit and/or youghurt. I do often make up a sugar free jelly and have with half a pot of youghurt. Lovely especially on a warm day or in the evening. I am not sure when it changed only a few weeks in.

I found that I am now not as hungry. In fact such a change. I imagine it must have been carb hungry now as it was obviously not true hunger. I did have a few treat things over a week especially the two weeks after Easter. My weight loss slowed to 1/2 a week. Now although I don’t mind this on one week, two were worrying. So I joined Milena on the Fast Beach diet this is put together by Mimi Spencer as meant as a kickstart to weight loss. Believe me I am nowhere near a bikini!! The only difference is dropping carb based treats. Hence cake, wine, sweets, cholocate etc. Also doing HIIT exercises 3 times a week and muscle strength training. I do HIIT on the Wii and use one of the programs that I have or chase the dog like a lunatic (she loves it. I have started with 3 x 10 second bouts for three times a week. Next week I may increase to 15 seconds. I read to start slowly and increase so that is what I am doing.

I do exercise and again use the Wii started with 15/20 minutes three times a week now I do 20/30 mins 3/4 times a week.

My first week is almost at an end as I started Monday, I always weigh Friday or Saturday so I can report after the (nearly) first week I have lost 3lb!!!! Really pleased with that. I counted calories every day and I well and truly under TDEE. I am only finding I am eating about 1000 calories on NFD’s. This is not what I am trying to do it just happens!! I keep trying to increase and yesterday decided to have something much earlier than usual as I wanted in increase calories (this sounds so strange) but as I had eaten about 11.45 I didn’t want anything lunch time. I just wasn’t hungry. I started getting hungry about 7pm this is my normal time to eat between 7 and 8.30 and so I had a pie (shouldn’t have been allowed but had to take out of freezer to pack veg in) potatoe wedges with peel on and southern fried coating and beans. Delicious!! But this still didn’t take me up to over 1100.

FBD is only for six weeks. so only 5 to go. Sunday I will have a roast. And a solero for dessert as this is only 95 calories and relatively low carb. I do like a dessert on Sunday.

So hopefully my journey may help the people struggling. All of the changes in the first few weeks were just due to the change in eating pattern. I didn’t choose them – they chose me. I find it strange that I am not drawn to certain foods but it is not that I am listening to my body it is telling me so it is much easier.

So all you people reading theses threads and wondering whether to give this a try come on it join the forums. I had never been on a forum before. Lots of nice threads here and you get to know the people who are all in the same boat, overweight and have been struggling for years and yo yo dieting. Stick with it for three weeks if you are not sure you will see there are changes. It really is easy and I love my food. I used to eat many foods that are high in carbs and far too many of them. Now this has changed this. Please don’t think I have changed as it really wasn’t a choice it just happened that I don’t want them. You probably won’t believe this either that you really wouldn’t want to eat them through CHOICE but it is true. No effort only for the fist couple of weeks. Apart from the weight loss there are all the health benefits of fasting. Look at Michael Mosely research.

    Have a nice weekend all.

    Ginette

Ok. This is one for people just starting. I wanted to put together a getting started guide. There are many others on the forum but this is mine.

I am for the long haul. My days are Monday and Wednesday. The first week is the hardest.

    My suggestions.

Before you start measure yourself. In the top right hand corner is a tracker you can put in your current weight and your measurements. Sometimes we may not lose a lot of weight but the inches come off, a strange thing I know. I probably measure about every six weeks.

In the tracker you can work out your TDEE. This is the amount that you can eat up to on a non fast day. I set mine at mt target weight and never really get up to that. At first I did but bad habits change and are replaced by good.

For the first three weeks at least count calories, a bit of a chore I know. This will sometimes surprise you by either being way over or way under your guess. Once you know what you are eating in calories, you can plan better.

Plan meals. Keep an overall idea of what you will eat about two days in advance.

Plan fast days by weighing and measuring everything. All milk in tea and coffee. All food. Stick to meat and veg or fish and veg. Carbohydrates make you hungry. Some people have two meals on fast days some only one. I only have one nice meal in the evening but I have fruit and yoghurt lunchtime. Normally I only have half of the yoghurt on the fruit. I use muller light and they are quite big. It depends on if you like breakfast I don’t. You don’t need to eat breakfast it doesn’t make any difference to a day. Up to you how you do it. You have 500 calories so it will do three really small meals or one large and a small. I also use a smaller plate.

Drink lots of water on a fast day as this should stop headaches. You may feel cold, this happens. A soup is also a good idea at lunch time instead of fruit. You can make your own or buy it weight watcher tomato is 76 calories a day. Worth a try. This is for the whole can.

Some people like to weigh more than once a week. I was on and off those scales all the time. You don’t lose weight any quicker and could be swayed by ups and down. Emotions are brought into play and you will see that you gain and lose all through the week.

Your friends are here. If you need help post and we will answer. A lot of us belong to other threads. Fat bustin Brits is one and there are others. Start on this one and explore others. I am also on help all ladies of a certain age as a lot of us are.

I use an app called my fitness pal. This is useful for updating your weight. Logging food eaten and milk in drinks. This I only measured twice. I have 5/6 cups of tea on fast days and this gets me through it. I got a large mug to use for fast days and now use it every day.

On this app you can also scan in food. More about this if you decide to use it.

You may have a hard time at first. If you start a fast day and then go over don’t worry if it is by 10, or 15 calories. If it is by more turn in into a low calorie day and then do another fast day. It may take you a couple of weeks to get the hang of it.

I have spicy chicken on a fast day, I buy spicy chicken breasts from farm foods, these are delicious and make it interesting. I even sonetimes have a little instant cheese sauce on my veg. I count this as well.

Salads are low in calories but not very satisfying for me, I leave these for other days. I always use frozen on fast days. Calories are on the packet and then I weigh them and put them in the microbe overnight. The nest day this and the chicken is ready to cook. I don’t have to think of dinner then. Melon is great with yoghurt and you get a lot for few calories. Also strawberries.

Remember these are only suggestions and my own way. We each find our own way of doing it and coping.

After a little while I would say two or three weeks, your tastes change and the food you want does too. I always craved carbs the day after. This was my body missing them as I used to eat too many. This goes, hard to believe it but it does. 5:2 gets easier as you go and most of us look forward to fast days. I know very strange.

Others will I hope join to give you lots of advice. This is a lot to take in I know. Look up may 10 week by week weight loss, I will post it there as well.

Good luck. This was my first ever forum experience and I have made some lovely forum friends. We live a long way away from one another but we all come together here. We are from many different countries. I live in the south of England.

    Hi Oceanblue

Thank you for your post. I see you are quite active and are worried about the future. Well I have come from not being at all active to being a little active. I now exercise between one a half and two hours a week apart from normal day to day things.

I eat healthily now, which I didn’t do. I have far less carbs and treat foods and lots of protein and vegetables.

Most of your food likes can be adapted. I used to work long hours, I don’t work at the moment. I used to eat prepared food on an almost everyday basis. I now maybe have something every two weeks. My food choices have changed on this diet. They have just become healthier without any effort on my part.

There are also the health benefits of this program that are many.

You can by the fast diet revised diet online and read in kindle.

What kind of food do you eat now?

    Ginette

    Is .bg for Bulgaria?

    Ginette

well spotted Ginette, it is bulgari, methinks spam?

    Hi Milena

I thought it might be but if someone genuinely wanted help I wanted to give it. I haven’t used the email address as this is only for people I consider I know well enough to know that they are genuine people.

I worry about some people on other threads having there adress on their profile. I think Facebook messenger is a safer place to give people these.

My next comment if I get an answer was that I preferred to keep in contact through the the forum. I did a quick look up of Bulgarian food in case the person was genuine.

Even the best of us can be fooled at times. I have been before so I am a little more cautious now.

    Ginette

I really did wonder myself, and wasnt at all sure until you pointed out the domain. Its a minefield, isnt it?

    Too right Milena

Most of the people are genuine but you just get the odd one. I just thought that the English wasn’t fluent and that made me look, it is so unusual to see an email as well.

I’ve just noticed that the post has gone?? Did you report it?

    Ginette

I was just so exited to get someone respond on this thread and sometimes it seems as if I am talking to myself here!!

    Ginette

no, but Ive always got time for you!!!!

just spotted Bulgaria morphed into bulgari, cool!!! reminds me I need a break in Paris

Bless you Milena and I for you.

I am on a b2b today as I normally fast on Friday but will be out all day. Food isn’t under my control. I have found someone to give my chicken with aniseed to and she loves it!!

So two people pleased. Me to pass it on and her to get it. I will be back to my normal spicy chicken next week – what a joy. Do you have Farm foods near you?

    Ginette

    Hi All

Before I answer all I need to post this link that I got from another thread. The thread was for people with diabetes – if we think we struggle you should see the struggle they have.

This is about aspartame and the studies they have done on it.

    http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/12/23/artificial-sweeteners-confuse-body.aspx

    Extract below:

“Aspartame and other artificial sweeteners are primarily promoted to diabetics and those concerned about their weight. This despite the fact that artificial sweeteners have repeatedly been shown to produce the exact opposite effects:

Research shows that aspartame worsens insulin sensitivity to a greater degree than sugar
Artificial sweeteners have also been found to promote weight gain, in more ways than one
Over time, artificial sweeteners have also crept into a wide variety of products not directly targeting diabetics and dieters.”

It also shows studies from 1986 where a large amount of people were tested. I hope the UK newspapers highlight this. So many people drink diet drinks which contain these thinking they are helpful. It is worth reading to the end.

Sorry, I am posting this on multiple threads but it is such an important issue, espricially with Pepsi being in the news.

Will be nice to hear from somebody now and again.

    Ginette

Good luck on your first week. Definetly the hardest.

    Link to the other thread.

Sue, if you are reading this then click on the link as well, it may help.

    Ginette

Ignore the post above that was meant to link someone from another thread onto this one……what a dope I am!!

    This is interesting though.

This is a link from another thread so I have watched it and found it fascinating. It really shows how we got to be so overweight in the beginning.

I am sure you will love this. It takes 5 minutes to go through the video, but it is 5 minutes well spent.

Thanks to Salma for the link.

    Ginette

Thank you for your posts. Your experience will be very helpful to me I think.

    Hi Linnane

I hope so. It is a difficult start sometimes but once you get into it is soon starts to make sense. It works for me and so many others.

Always leave a message here if you need help. For some strange reason I am not getting notifications now. So I will look from time to time.

If you look up Applepie you can join our Facebook group. Just find one of her posts and click on her name, you will then find details. The Facebook group is a closed group and any posts are secret from your main newsfeed. You will be amongst friend there who will help and cheer you along.

Ignore that last post as it was a mistake!!

    Hi All

Just an update on next 10 weeks weight loss, I did do the fast beach diet during these weeks and that gave me a really good loss of 16lbs in 6 weeks.

    Week 11 -1
    Week 12 -1
    Week 13 -0.5
    Week 14 -1.5
    Week 15 -5
    Week 16 -1
    Week 17 -2
    Week 18 -2
    Week 19 -3
    Week 20 -3

This takes me up to 7th June, so I am now partly through the next 10 weeks. At the moment weight loss has slowed right down but I am still losing and as I keep telling myself that is the important thing.

    How is everybody else doing?

    Ginette

    Hello Ginette K

I am also a woman in her late 50s with a lot of weight to shift. I’ve managed to stop smoking after 40 years, but I have put on even more weight. Just under 15 stone at 5’2″, so I look like a barrel.
I started the 5:2 diet on Monday and my second fast day will be tomorrow. I am encouraged to read that your tastes and habits do change over time, and so I’m looking forward to wanting less bread, cheese, butter, wine…

    Thank you Ginette

Its very encouraging to see how far you have come.

When you see others doing so well it really helps with the will power to go on.

    Thank you. x

That is fantastic and very encouraging. Well done!!!

That really does help and inspire so thanks and congratulations on your weight loss!

    Hi Joan and Hemmy

Yes I can honestly say that at the beginning of 5:2, I never expected to lose as much weight as I did or be able to follow it for so long.

It has been just over six months since I started and I am still with it. In this tine I have lost just over three stone and I lost a stone in the 9 months before by cutting back. I am especially thrilled with the 5:2 because it doesn’t feel as if I am on a diet.

I have a target weight in mind on 11 stone. In fact if I lower this by 3lbs I shall be in the healthy range of BMI. I still have about 5 stone to lose to get here, so I think it will take me about another year or two to achieve this.

I am looking forward to getting to the next half stone target because this will take me to the half way mark and the next half stone will take me into a new BMI range. So there are always small achievable targets to use.

I would say be realistic with your targets and time frames and then you won’t be disappointed.

I reached a plateau a few weeks ago well not a complete plateau as I wanted to avoid that but a real slow down of weight loss. I know that this is inevitable after a while. I had become lazy with food choices and I was having too many treats. I did not want this to last, so gave myself a bit of a kick and I changed to 4:3 that is 3 days fasting, 4 days off.

The first week of this no change but the week after lost two pounds and the following three pounds. I have been surprised by a Chinese takeaway that I wasn’t expecting and I am also out for a meal this week so if I stay the same that will be a bonus. These things happen in life and it is good to remember this.

I am pleased to say that I have not put on in all the time I have been doing this. If I have had a meal out before I have have always added another fast day to that week to counteract any effects.

    Joan

Bread I think you will eat less of. I found this happened naturally. I only eat then about three times a week. At the moment I might have one or possible two sandwiches a week. Before I could have toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch maybe a piece of two of toast later with a sausage or maybe egg and beans and then I sometimes had a piece of fruit and yoghurt. As you see a very unhealthy diet. I also had the odd chocolate bar or piece of cake, I am now shocked as I write this. My favourite dinners involved either a jacket potato, beans and cheese or pasta……all carbs again. Meat and fish I could take it or leave it. I always eat vegetables on Sunday with a roast dinner and I really love vegetables. I was working late and it all seemed like too much effort to prepare when I got home.

I know have vegetables nearly every day and the same from fruit although maybe only one piece a day. I do use frozen vegetables normally cauliflower, broccoli and carrots but occasionally I add spinach or sprouts and I cook up a large pot of mince with peppers, onions, mushrooms (whole as this way they don’t add water to the mince and I can still taste them) two tins of tomatoes and herbs and spices. I often use fajita seasoning, not an obvious one to use but absolutely delicious. I use ordinary mince or meat free. Then I serve with more vegetables. 🙂

So even with a lot of weight to shift (I imagine it is about the same as I have) it does go down.

With the 4:3 I find I can relax more at weekends and also on NFDs I am more careful during the week than the weekend though.

Keep in touch both of you as it will be interesting to see each other’s journeys.

Good luck to you both and any questions just post and I will try to answer.

I have recently been hearing about new things which can help us on our journey. All food related!! These are only in the UK so I am not sure where you are Joan I live in the south of England.

The first one is Morrisons’s it has been has been on many other sites leek and bacon stuffed pies, it is with lattice pastry and some cheese in the mix and they come out at 100 calories each. Look them up they are delicious.

The other was tesco frozen Chinese noodle stir fry. 154 calories for half a pack which is 250 grms.

    Hi Lynda

That is an amazing loss and what a fantastic first week you had. In fact your ten weeks were all good even the fact that you only put on 2lbs on holiday. Seeing the 10 weeks I think is helpful as it shows a pattern.

    Hi Abs

Nice to see you here. What are you aiming to lose? How long have you been doing it? I always hope it helps and I am trying to encourage people to put their 10 week losses on here.

I have just seen your post on an email. As I have Lynda’s I had a phone call on the middle of posting.

    Have a good week all

    Ginette

Hi Ginette, thanks for getting back to me. I’ve set myself some interim targets, because 5st 3lbs to target just sounds too much! Even if I achieved a pound a week, it’s going to take 73 weeks, so Christmas 2016…
So, target 1 is getting under 200lbs, target 2 is losing 10% of original body weight and so on.

Fortunately, I love vegetables too, Less of a fruit fan, but melons, strawberries, rasps, I love. Living on the Moray coast, we get a lot of good fish, and I’m going to develop my fish repertoire further.

I’m on a fast day today, so hot smoked and roasted salmon and prawns will take centre stage tonight, with salad.

I’ve always been a black coffee drinker and am trying to increase my green tea consumption.

Thanks for your tip re Morrison’s leek and bacon pies and Tesco’s Chinese noodle stir fry.

I’m going out for a walk now. Will keep you posted.
