  • After reading posts on here it seems the 5:2 is more complicated than I’d thought. This is my second week and today is my fast day. Last night I had a little snack at about 9.30 then (and I just did this to see if I could!) I didnt eat anything till 5.30 tonight. I will go as long as poss tomorrow but will probs eat my breakfast around 9.30-10…does this sound OK? I didn’t realise the length of time you fasted was as important as it seems to be!

    Hi Chubbycaz:

5:2 is simple. It only becomes hard when varied opinions enter into the mix.

The way 5:2 works is you go to bed, get up, eat 5/600 or fewer calories during your waking hours, go to bed, get up and eat to your TDEE or less – twice a week. On all 7 days of the week you can eat foods you want to eat – there are no forbidden foods, or foods you have to eat. For the first month or so focus on doing your diet days correctly (5/600 calories or less) and most everything else will fall into place.

Here is what TDEE means: http://thefastdiet.co.uk/forums/topic/tdee-for-the-curious-or-why-dont-i-lose-weight-faster/

    Good Luck!

I agree with simcoeluv keep it simple and then you will be able to find the practice which suits you best. You can experiment with timings etc. as you wish but I personally think do what feels best for you within the above guidelines as then you are more likely to stick with it.

Personally I do exactly what you did – had dinner on my non-fast day, ate dinner around 5/6pm on a fast day. Then the day after I have my breakfast before work at 7.30am on my non-fast day. This works best for me & so far down 8 lbs in 11 days. Good luck!

Thanks a lot 🙂 I think it’s all falling into place now. I have lost weight so must be doing something right! I feel like a slim person has taken over my brain though. I wasn’t really craving my breakfast this morning but made it anyway and then left half, which is absolutely unheard of for me. I’m trying not going to get too excited but….whoooohoo!!!

Hiya Chubbycaz, “I wasn’t really craving my breakfast this morning but made it anyway”

And THAT is what you need to consciously stop doing. Let the ‘slim person’ take charge if they’re making better decisions. If you don’t need it (even on a non-fastday) don’t eat it. A calorie that you’re not genuinely hungry for is a wasted calorie that you could have spent on cake later (in my mind at least 😉 ).

    Best of luck on 5:2
